The ineffable ‘Bestlite’ is a rare example of a successful British product inspired by Bauhaus principles, as The Architects’ Journal first declared in 1932. Best had worked in Germany, where he learnt the school’s principle: ‘art and technology: a new unity’. Neither an artist nor a technologist, Winston Churchill used Bestlites on his Whitehall desk. In 2004, the Danish company GUBI assumed production and sales rights for the Bestlite Collection. Authentic examples carry the Bestlite logo and trademark. Designed in 1930.
