The Eames DSW (Dining Side Shell Wood) is a contemporary version of the legendary fibreglass chair that was first presented at the Museum of Modern Art's competition 'Low-Cost Furniture Design' in 1948.The comfortable seat shell was made of fibreglass-reinforced plastic and combined with a variety of bases. It was discontinued in 1993 as fibreglass cannot be recycled; however this contemporary re-edition from Vitra is made from recyclable polypropylene. Its legs are stained and varnished marple wood and it has steel rod cross-struts. The unusual combination of materials results in a solid design and lends this chair an independent character.Rubber shock mounts connect the seat to the base resulting in a comfortable, flexible chair even after long periods of sitting in it. Each chair has a stamp on its base to certify its authenticity. Available in white, yellow, blue, orange and black.
