This is a modern interpretation of a long-standing classic of English furniture. There is no agreement about the source of the Chesterfield name, but it is pleasant to think that it is associated with the Earl of Chesterfield who was one of the great literary and political figures of the 18th century. Chesterfield’s Letters to his Son is one of the best ever accounts of a father-son relationship in the days of The Grand Tour. Let’s say he wrote his letters here, on a leather sofa immediately recognisable by its distinctive buttons and characteristic rolled profile.
