The simple and elegant pedestal design of the Saarinen table was conceived by Eero Saarinen in 1956 as an answer to clutter on the underside of chairs and tables. 'The underside of typical chairs and tables makes a confusing, unrestful world,' explained Saarinen. 'I wanted to clear up the slum of legs.' The table’s marble top is sealed with a transparent polyester coating that helps prevent use-associated stains. As this is a natural product, the pattern of the marbling on each table will differ, which adds to its charm, making each one unique. The moulded, cast aluminium base is coated in an abrasion-resistant Rilsan finish, making it hard-wearing. It is available in various sizes and finishes. Manufactured by Knoll, each piece carries Saarinen's signature as a mark of authenticity.
