Arad, born in Israel in 1951, is one of the great wizards of contemporary British design: an imaginative re-user and a creative exploiter of new technology, he also has a keen aesthetic sense. Kartell’s extruded plastic shelf is continuously adaptable to different loads and forms different shapes. Arad is a professor in London’s Royal College of Art and his work has been the subject of monographic exhibitions at both the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Barbican Arts Centre in London. Designed in 1994.
