Phillippe StarckPhilippe Patrick Starck was born in 1949 and has become a well-known designer from France. Throughout his life his designs have ranged from mass produced consumables to individual interior designs. His education took place in Paris at the École Nissim de Camondo in 1968 from here he when on to found his own design firm which specialised in inflatable objects. In 1969 Starck and Pierre Cardin became art directors of his firm.In 1982 Starck became a big name in the design world when he was commission to design the interior of the French President François Mitterrand private apartment. He had been working as an interior designer and product designer since 1975. His name spread to American when he was commissioned by Target Stores (large American retailer) to design a range of consumable goods in 2002. One of his most recent works was completed for Microsoft, an optical mouse. Starke has been in demand from a range of companies from multiple genres wanting to gain his expertise. He has designed objects from yachts to beer companies, to the Virgin Galactic “Spaceport” in New Mexico.Starck’s work is set apart by how he approaches the design of consumable goods. He concentrates on the creation of simple items that can be mass produced, not elaborate single pieces. He also spends time working with the marketing team to help market his products to the masses. This in depth knowledge of the marketing side of design is why he is able to keep pushing the boundaries of his organic, streamlined and stylized look, and by using unusual combinations of materials such as glass and stone, plastic and aluminum, plush fabric and chrome.
