Description

Designed in 2013 and first presented at Milan’s annual Mindcraft exhibition, GUBI's Beetle Dining Chair is the creation of the young design duo Enrico Fratesi and Stine Gam, and is inspired by the shape, shell and structure of the eponymous insect.

GamFratesi found the anatomy of the beetle captivating; the structure is composed of different plates separated by thin sutures, and it is this external shell that supports and protects the animal’s body. All of these elements are perfectly linked and work together in a way that fascinates the designers.

The design of the chair reinterprets the characteristic elements of the beetle’s body: rigid on the outside and soft within, while maintaining optimum comfort and superior functionality. The seat and back of this take are created using laminated moulded veneer, which is then upholstered in a luxurious velvet and finished with velvet piping. Finally, the non-stackable base features sleek black powder-coated steel legs that would accent any dining area.
