The origin of the Bestlite BL6 Wall Lamp is rooted in the Bauhaus philosophy, an establishment which championed a rebellion against tradition and sought to bring simplicity to the forefront.
Recognisable for its swan-necked silhouette combined with an adjustable arm and moveable shade, the iconic Wall Lamp was first sketched by British designer Robert Dudley Best in England in 1930. Featuring clean lines and an elegant expression, the design was favoured by Winston Churchill during World War II and has since become a contemporary classic.
Robert Dudley Best is now recognised as one of the great British designers of the 20th century, while the Bestlite remains an elegant testimony to his work. First produced by the manufacturing firm Best & Lloyd, founded by Best's family in 1840, Danish design firm GUBI took over the production of this iconic light and continues to manufacture it to exacting standards to this day.
