Stool 60 Collection
The idea behind the Stool 60 collection was a simple one: to create a stackable, versatile seating solution. The concept was born when legendary Finnish designer Alvar Aalto was asked in 1933 to design the building and furniture for the municipal library at Viipuri, at the eastern edge of Finland, which led him to invent the innovative L-leg. By bending a piece of birch to a curved 90° angle, the L-leg could be fastened directly to the seat, eliminating the need for complicated framework or support and creating Aalto’s signature spare, streamlined and straightforward aesthetic.
