BRAND

Founded in Copenhagen in 1967 by Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen, GUBI’s philosophy is to give overlooked icons of the past the recognition they deserve and to cultivate new generations of design talent. Fuelled by this passion, the result is an intercontinental portfolio of furniture and lighting that blurs the lines between the past and the future.

The brand originally focused on producing the Olsens’ own furniture designs and trading textiles within the retail sector. After their sons opened a concept store and introduced fashion into the equation, GUBI began to evolve as a brand and forge its now instantly recognisable aesthetic of simple, arresting shapes creating using the world’s most innovative manufacturing techniques.

Once famous for traditionally crafting its furniture out of beautifully curved wood, GUBI is now renowned for being at the forefront of an innovative moulding technique using 3D-veneers. Over the years, GUBI has established a firm position on the Danish design market with its handpicked edit of high quality furniture from all over the world, and its collaborations with both esteemed designers and exciting up-and-comers.

Exclusive Beetle Dining Chair in Grey Bouclé & Black

GamFratesi's iconic Beetle Dining Chair, inspired by the shape, shell and structure of the eponymous insect, is newly updated by the young design duo in sumptuous Dedar Karakorum 004 bouclé upholstery, only at The Conran Shop.

Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi found the anatomy of the beetle captivating; the structure is composed of different plates separated by thin sutures, and it is this external shell that supports and protects the animal’s body. All of these elements are perfectly linked and work together in a way that fascinated the designers.

The design of the chair reinterprets the characteristic elements of the beetle’s body: rigid on the outside and soft within, while maintaining optimum comfort and superior functionality. The seat and back of the Beetle are created using laminated moulded veneer. One of four new releases, this version of the Beetle Chair showcases wool fabric incorporating viscose and cotton, in a cool grey hue and black frame.
