The Conran Shop

Manufacturer and retailer of chairs, tables and storage, publisher of dozens of books and an innovator of furniture, Herman Miller has dedicated decades to the development of modular and ergonomic seating. Equally committed to sustainability, by setting up the Earthright strategy, it aims to achieve zero waste from all facilities and reduce water and energy consumption by 50 per cent. One of its locations is also home to 12 beehives, from which the honey produced is gifted to lucky visitors.

Celebrating over 50 years of trade in the United Kingdom, Herman Miller's offering at The Conran Shop boasts the lauded Bubble lighting series by George Nelson. Nelson served as Herman Miller’s first Design Director. Using a cocooning white plastic spray that was originally developed for the U.S. military, he succeeded in providing the series with a smooth and translucent finish reminiscent of the silk cocoons spun by butterflies. The bubble lights instantly became icons of mid-century design.

Bubble Criss-Cross Saucer Pendant Light

Bubble Criss-Cross Saucer Pendant Light

Designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller, the iconic Criss-Cross Saucer Bubble Pendant, is a lauded classic that has become synonymous with 1950s design thanks to its striking aesthetic.

Forming part of the permanent collection at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, this celebrated saucer-shaped pendant was inspired by a set of Swedish hanging lamps that George Nelson encountered on his travels.

Secured with a brushed nickel ceiling plate, the symmetrical light appears to float in the air whilst it casts a soft, even glow throughout the room. A striking design classic, the criss-cross saucer Bubble Pendant would lend a warm atmosphere to any space whether showcased alone or in a group.
