Innovatively designed by Marcel Gascoin in 1947 to suit the compact post-war French home, the C-Chair from GUBI is an elegant reimagining of Gascoin's enduring mid-century design.
Characterised by its high-quality wooden workmanship and distinctive leg profile, the minimalist chair is crafted from robust oiled oak or walnut. This new version is finished with an exquisitely crafted paper cord seat and backrest, to texturally complement the wooden frame.
One of the post-war era’s leading designers, Marcel Gascoin’s designs became a staple in French homes during the 1950s. His fascination with utilitarian characteristics and flexible functionality began in childhood, where he grew up around boats, admiring their efficient use of space. Gascoin's iconic C-Chair design rejected the tradition of oversized and ornate Louis XV or Regency chairs that were popular at the time, instead prioritising simple functionality, executed with meticulous attention to detail.
