Vibrant and bold, this extra-large Nifty Knit Basket was designed by The Basket Room and handcrafted in Kenya.
With striking, geometric patterns inspired by local tribal designs, these baskets are known as Kinodos and were traditionally woven by mothers for their daughters as wedding gifts.
Hand-woven by craftspeople from Kenya’s Kamba tribe, these baskets are crafted using a local twining method that sees two woollen elements wound around a central pole of local sisal grass. Each basket can take up to four days to weave, and each one features a unique pattern designed by its maker.
A craft as old as mankind, traditional basket weaving inspired Camilla and Holly to found The Basket Room and support local weavers. In supporting these East African communities, the workers benefit from fair wages, dignified working conditions and the ability to work alongside their other roles.
Please note: Due to the handcrafted nature of these baskets, no two are the same. One colourway will be selected for you at random when ordered online; a lucky dip, if you will.
