The Wishbone Chair with a black ash frame and white paper cord seat was first designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and is crafted today to his exacting standards by Carl Hansen & Søn.
Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines an antique Chinese chair. With its steam-bent top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape, the lightweight chair allows for freedom of movement and superior comfort, making it an ideal piece for both work and relaxation spaces.
The chair’s characteristic ‘Y’-shaped detail gives the chair its name and also provides exquisite support and stability. Involving over 100 hand-rendered production steps in total, the seat is beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord that can last up to 50 years.
