Also known as the ‘Sawbuck Chair’, the CH29 Chair by Hans Wegner is manufactured to exacting standards by master craftspeople at Carl Hansen & Søn and is crafted from soaped oak in a contemporary curved form.
Originally designed in 1952, the ‘Sawbuck Chair’ was so-named due to its legs’ resemblance to simple sawbucks or saw horses used by carpenters. Originally taken out of production in 1970, it was Wegner’s daughter Marianne who suggested it be reissued 20 years later, to great success and acclaim.
Carefully crafted from oak treated with soap to lighten and enhance the unique graining of the wood, the CH29 Chair is produced in accordance to Wegner’s original specifications.
Combining a complex structure with soft curves and organic shapes, the CH29 Chair has a solid wood frame and distinctively moulded back shell, with an ergonomic seat upholstered with Carl Hansen & Søn’s premium Sif leather: a full-grain, uncoated pure aniline ox hide with high breathability that will age with patina and grace.
The CH29 Chair offers comfort, stability and style, and would make a striking piece for any sophisticated interior. Perfect as a statement chair in a dining room or workspace, Wegner’s CH29 in soaped oak and leather combines timeless style with a contemporary edge.
