The Eight & Bob aftershave lotion has a smooth sophisticated scent with citrus tones that will leave you feeling fresh and revitalised in the mornings. About Eight & BobThe story of Eight & Bob began in France when a young Parisian aristocrat and perfume connoisseur Albert Fouquet came up with a new aroma in the top floor of the family château. Admired by his contemporaries he went about creating bottles of this alluring scent to distribute to his close friends and acquaintances. with the help of his butler Philippe. During a holiday in the summer of 1937 Albert met an American student named John Kennedy who was captivated by Albert’s cologne. On returning to America JFK put in an order for eight samples of the fragrance for himself and “another one for Bob”. Albert’s cologne became a hit stateside and counted many of Hollywood’s finest among its clientele. Almost eighty years later the formula Albert used remains a closely guarded secret but the scent itself remains a firm favourite with some of the world’s most discerning gentlemen.

Albert Fouquet

Eight & Bob is steeped in heritage and intrigue thanks to the man behind the brand: Albert Fouquet. Fouquet, the son of a Parisian aristocrat, was part of elite French society of the early 20th century and a perfume connoisseur. Fouquet created and perfected various essences for his own personal use with the assistance of family butler Philippe. At every social event he was invited to, he would surprise everyone with his exquisite fragrance that became increasingly in demand within the exclusive social circle he frequented. However, Fouquet continually rejected proposals to market his fragrance.

During his summer vacation in 1937 on the French Riviera, Fouquet got on very well with a young American student who was touring France in a convertible – John F. Kennedy. Within minutes of being introduced, JFK was captivated by the fragrance worn by Fouquet. Kennedy’s charm persuaded Fouquet to leave him a sample of his cologne with a note at the hotel the following morning: “In this jar, you will find the dash of French glamour that your American personality lacks.”

Later Fouquet received a letter from Kennedy thanking him for the kind gesture and informing him of the success his perfume was enjoying among his friends. He requested that Albert send him eight samples and his note detailed: “And if your production allows, another one for Bob.” Without fully understanding the request, Fouquet sourced beautiful glass jars from a Parisian pharmacy and labelled them with John’s request: “EIGHT&BOB”. Following Fouquet’s untimely death in 1939, it was only decades later the family of Philippe the butler, bought the fragrance formula and production processes back into the limelight. Today, the formula that Fouquet created remains intact and it has become one of the most exclusive colognes, preferred by the most elegant and dapper gentlemen in the world.
