A contemporary Spanish architect and designer, and mentee of Achille Castiglioni, Patricia Urquiola works under her eponymous studio. Constantly pushing the limits of research and technology, the modern visionary continues to experiment and move boundaries, confronting complex processes and playing with daring scales.
Urquiola’s work builds an empathetic connection with the user through interaction with her designs, known as Castiglioni’s “fundamental element” theory. The Creative Director of Cassina since 2015 and head of a team of 70 at her eponymous studio, Urquiola has worked with the industry best, from Alessi, Louis Vuitton and Georg Jensen to Flos and Glas Italia among others. Recurring themes in Urquiola’s work are colour, curved shapes, modularity and geometric composition.
Urquiola is the winner of several international prizes and awards, including the Gold Medal in Fine Arts awarded by the Spanish Government; Order of Isabella the Catholic, awarded by His Majesty The King of Spain Juan Carlos I; Wallpaper* magazine’s Designer of the Year, and named Designer of the Decade by multiple German design publications. Her latest collection of glass tables with Glas Italia is exclusively available at The Conran Shop.
