Renowned across the globe as one of 20th-century Germany’s most prominent architects and designers, Egon Eiermann’s creations are defined by his signature, simplistic aesthetic and his desire to always make a design's function clearly visible.
An architecture student at the Technical University of Berlin and later a professor at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, Egon Eiermann became acquainted with leading Bauhaus figures such as Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe on multiple trips to the United States. Although he was never a member of the Bauhaus, Eiermann is credited with continuing the movement after the Second World War with his clean lines and use of steel.
An icon of mid-century design, Egon Eiermann created iconic designs such as the SBG197R Office Chair, the Eiermann 1 Desk and the SE42 Dining Chair. A founding member of the German Design Council, the multi-award-winning German architect also counts among his repertoire the West German pavilion at the Brussels World Expo and the Berlin Memorial Church. Eiermann’s accolades include The Grand Prize of the Federation of German Architects and Germany’s Grand Order of Merit.
