This signature experimental approach is applied to carefully chosen materials, resulting in pieces that illustrate the processes and techniques that created them, exemplifying the design duo's continuing exploration of the relationship between harmony and disharmony, and how this can be illustrated through form. Every GamFratesi design has a unique story or inspiration that tends to be expressed through minimalist details, such as the now iconic Beetle Chair, which subtly mimics the carapace of its namesake.

The designers say of their process, "Our work is balancing between the traditional and surprising. Often it takes just a small detail to achieve or break an expression, and we are very curious about that. We work strictly with the Scandinavian approach to crafts, simplicity and functionalism, but there always happens to be a strong emotion to concept and story behind each work." Acknowledging the contrasts they are both often faced with in daily life, they draw inspiration from these diversities to create designs with subtle duality of function and beauty.

Designed in 2013 and first presented at Milan’s annual Mindcraft exhibition, the Beetle Dining Chair is the creation of young design duo, Enrico Fratesi and Stine Gam, and is inspired by the shape, shell and structure of the eponymous insect. GamFratesi found the anatomy of the beetle captivating; the structure is composed of different plates separated by thin sutures, and it is this external shell that supports and protects the animal’s body. All of these elements are perfectly linked and work together in a way that fascinated the designers.
