A legend of mid-century modern design, Danish-American designer Jens Risom is renowned across the globe for his outstanding contribution to contemporary design. Utilising innovative materials and exploring abstract forms in each piece of furniture, Risom’s designs remain incredibly sought after today.
Beginning his career under the tutelage of Ole Wanscher and Kaare Klint at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Arts, Jens Risom was also classmates with future icons such as Hans Wegner and Børge Mogensen. Going on to join Nordiska Kompaniet’s design department in Stockholm before travelling to New York to study American design, Risom soon teamed up with Hans Knoll to design fifteen pieces for the design house’s inaugural collection.
Designing iconic pieces of furniture such as the webbed Risom Lounge Chair, the Amoeba Coffee Table and the round Risom Side Table, Jens Risom is often credited as the designer who bought Scandinavian design to the United States. Honoured with pieces on display in the permanent collections at New York’s MoMA, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and the Yale University Art Gallery, in 1996 Risom was also presented with the Danish Knight's Cross in recognition of his achievements.
Risom Lounge Chair Flax
Widely considered a design classic, the Risom Lounge Chair by Jens Risom was one of the first original design models commissioned by Knoll.
The Risom Lounge Chair features a stylish maple hardwood frame, angled attractively and wrapped with woven strips of cotton webbing.
The pattern of the chair is a combination of gentle curves and geometric angles. Set the Lounge Chair in your living room or position it in front of a coffee table for a contemporary style statement.
