Designer of the Year at MAISON&OBJET January 2020, Michael Anastassiades's philosophy is to produce exceptionally designed objects of permanent value. All of his designs are handcrafted; the glasswork is free-blown and the metal finishes are bespoke, resulting in lasting pieces of enduring craftsmanship.
Having originally trained as a civil engineer, Michael Anastassiades studied for a master’s degree in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art and went on to found his eponymously named London studio in 1994. Striving to communicate a sense of eclecticism, individuality and timelessness in each of his designs, Anastassiades’s work is featured in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, London’s Victoria & Albert Museum and the MAK in Vienna.
Finding the perfect balance between art and design, Michael Anastassiades’ innovative approach to lighting breathes a touch of fresh air into interiors. Provoking dialogue, participation and interaction from the user, Anastassiades’s lighting designs feature unique touches and accents that are unexpected in the traditionally functional object. Minimalist and utilitarian, his clean-lined designs lend a sense of character to every space they illuminate, with the light’s glow at the forefront of every design.
