Copenhagen-born, award-winning designer Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) grew up with a passion for the arts and design informed by her mother, studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with the likes of Kaare Klint, followed by London's Royal Academy of Arts. It is here where she met her husband, Jørgen Ditzel, with whom she designed the iconic Ring Chair for Getama.
After her first husband's unexpected passing, Nanna had to reinvent herself as a soloist, experimenting with fibreglass to breathe new life into upholstery and revolutionise furniture design. Hailed as Denmark's 'Grande Dame of Design,' Ditzel is undeniably one of the most accomplished designers of her generation, paving the way for female designers in a male-dominated industry.
Some of Ditzel's most recognisable pieces include the Caribbean travel-inspired Trinidad Dining Chair, the indoor- and outdoor-enhancing Hanging Egg Chair and the inviting Ditzel Lounge Chair. Ditzel's remarkable Ring Chair, made famous for its distinctive form and finish, is available at The Conran Shop in exquisite Louison upholstery, manufactured by luxury fabric house, Pierre Frey.
Ring Chair in Walnut & Crème
Originally designed in 1958 by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, the contemporary Ring Chair in walnut and cream showcases an exclusive Louison upholstery.
Boasting an elegant walnut wood curved frame, the chair is exquisitely upholstered in Louison fabric from luxury fabric house Pierre Frey, a finish that is exclusively available at The Conran Shop. An alpaca fleece, wool and cotton blend, the beautifully soft fabric is finished in a natural crème hue for a refined finish.
