French design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec conceptualised their first piece in 1982, when the young brothers built a football goal in their back garden. Going on to study at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the École des Beaux-Arts in Cergy-Pontoise respectively, the pair’s approach to design has developed considerably.
Having begun their dual career with Cappellini and founded their eponymous studio in 1999, the Bouroullec brothers’ work ranges from jewellery and photography to architecture and furniture. Embracing simplicity and originality, the pair’s designs are praised for their relentless commitment to quality. Honoured with awards such as the 2014 Panerai London Design Medal, the 2015 Red Dot Award and multiple Wallpaper* Design Awards, the Bouroullec brothers have work featured in the permanent collections at New York’s MoMa and London’s Design Museum.
With a relaxed, product-driven approach to design, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s designs connect to the user on a humanistic level. Shunning modern science and engineering in favour of clear, concise and easy to use furniture, their designs are refined, pared back and functional. From the innovative Kaari Storage Collection to the brightly hued Corniche Shelves, each design fulfills a specific role in the home to enhance the users’ lives.
