Gifted with a unique sense of colour, shape and light, Verner Panton is beloved across the world as one of Denmark’s most influential designers. Boldly creating furniture and lighting that was completely unlike the work of his contemporaries, Panton’s designs remain popular today.
Having studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Verner Panton went on to work in famed designer Arne Jacobsen’s firm before founding his own studio for architecture and design in 1955. Widely recognised for his avidity with bright colours and geometric patterns, Panton created vivid installations, such as the Visiona 0 and 2 exhibitions at the Cologne Furniture Fair and the interior of the Varna restaurant in Aarhus, as well as iconic furniture.
Fascinated with innovative technologies, techniques and materials, Verner Panton also created icons such as the Heart Cone Chair and the vibrant S-shaped Panton Chair. Expertly crafted from vibrantly-hued plastic, the Panton Chair is characteristic of his unique approach to design. Honoured with work in the permanent collections at New York's MoMA, Copenhagen's Danish Museum of Art and Design and the Design Museum in London, Verner Panton’s iconic designs remain incredibly sought-after today.
