An icon of 1960s modernism, American architect and designer Warren Platner is praised for his innovative techniques, unique designs and cross-industry repertoire. Lending a sculptural quality to each piece he designed, Platner’s work has been honoured with multiple places in the permanent collection at New York’s MoMA.
Having studied at Cornell University for a degree in architecture, Platner collaborated with legends such as Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen and I. M. Pei before creating his Platner collection for Knoll. An icon of modern design, the Platner collection features an exceptionally striking core design that boasts a sculptural base with elegant upholstery. Immersing himself in the design, Platner helped to devise the techniques and method needed to manufacture the collection.
Renowned across the globe for his contribution to design, Warren Platner designed interiors and buildings, as well as furniture. The mastermind behind the luxurious interior of the original Windows on the World restaurant, the headquarters for the Ford Foundation and Georg Jensen’s New York showroom, Platner was inducted into Interior Design magazine's hall of fame in 1985. Dedicated to his eponymously-mamed firm, Platner continued to work on architectural projects until his death in 2006.
