One of just 1958 pieces, the limited-edition Egg Chair celebrates the 60th anniversary of this true hero of mid-century design.
The instantly recognisable Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen, upholstered in Pure Leather in an assortment of hues with a 23-karat gold coated star base, is manufactured to exacting standards by Scandinavian furniture specialists Fritz Hansen.
Originally designed in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas of the Royal Hotel Copenhagen, the Egg Chair’s fluid curves offered a sculptural contrast to the building’s straight-edges and vertical lines.
The Egg Chair was crafted using entirely new techniques for the time, with Jacobsen being the first to utilise a strong foam inner shell underneath the chair’s upholstery. Using a unique process, Jacobsen tested and prototyped the shape and form of the Egg Chair using clay in his home studio.
This limited-edition version of the Egg Chair is upholstered in Sørensen’s Pure leather, a certified allergy-friendly and IVN natural leather with a subtle surface texture and distinctive markings that will age beautifully with the development of an elegant patina.
Manufactured to exacting standards by Fritz Hansen, this limited-edition version of Arne Jacobsen’s Egg Chair makes an inspiring addition to any space and will retain its bold presence and immaculate presentation for years to come.
