Exclusively available at The Conran Shop as part of a limited-edition run of 50, the Wishbone Chair was first designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and has been reimagined by Carl Hansen & Søn in an oak and walnut finish.
While exploring its prototype archives, Carl Hansen & Søn came across this rare interpretation of the Wishbone Chair and consulted The Conran Shop, who selected it for exclusive production.
Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines an antique Chinese chair. With its steam-bent walnut top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape, the lightweight Wishbone Chair allows for freedom of movement and superior comfort, making it an ideal piece for both work and relaxation spaces.
The chair’s characteristic oak ‘Y’-shaped detail gives the chair its name and also provides exquisite support and stability. Involving over 100 hand-rendered production steps in total, the seat is beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of natural paper cord that can last up to 50 years.
