Designed exclusively for The Conran Shop, Hans J. Wegner’s iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair receives an indigo update with the help of Hiut Denim Co. and Carl Hansen & Søn.
Expertly created using a combination of modern treatments and natural dying techniques that take several weeks to complete, the prestigious Danish manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn has mastered the art of making a Wishbone.
Beautifully crafted from ash rather than the typical beech frames seen on regular CH24 Wishbone Chairs, this exclusive version is enriched with a rich dark blue lacquer that uniquely reveals the grain of the wood. As a final flourish, the chair is accented by an optional premium denim seat cushion from textile specialist Hiut Denim Co., upholstered in organic, artisan-crafted denim and backed with premium Loke leather.
Characterised by its distinctive Y detail, the Wishbone Chair was inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs. Offering back support, stability and a unique aesthetic, the CH24 Chair boasts a gently rounded top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape to allow for freedom of movement and superior comfort.
With a seat beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord, more than 100 production steps are taken to craft this exquisite chair. Finished with a Conran metal plaque as a mark of authenticity, this classic design is sure to make a unique addition to any space.
The driving force behind ‘Danish Modern’, Wegner’s innovative designs altered the public’s view of furniture throughout the 1950s and 60s. Known as the ‘Master of the Chair’, his partnership with Carl Hansen & Søn began in 1949 and continues to this day, revitalised with partnerships with brands such as Hiut Denim Co.
Based in the Welsh town of Cardigan, Hiut Denim Co. is celebrated for regenerating the forgotten denim industry in the area. For three decades Cardigan was home to a vast denim factory, until its closure left hundreds unemployed. After it’s reopening in 2012, today the factory creates a selection of just 120 pairs of internationally renowned, organic, artisan-crafted denim jeans per week, breathing new life into the town and awarding it a well-earned place on the design map of the UK.
