Part science experiment, part art installation, Flyte is a levitating light that ‘sets the light bulb free’.
Designed and handcrafted in Sweden from sustainably sourced walnut wood and an energy efficient, shatter resistant Edison bulb, Flyte is powered through the air via induction and hovers using magnetic levitation, turned on and off by a single touch, with no batteries required.
Floating above its base as if by magic, the bulb will rotate in different air currents to add another wondrous element to this truly captivating and innovative lighting design.
The chrome-capped, filament-style light bulb has a low voltage LED to ensure safety and longevity; Flyte will stay illuminated for 50,000 hours – that’s 11 years if in use for 12 hours daily.
‘Art Scientist’ Simon Morris has been fascinated with levitation since his teens, building his own prototype hoverboard when he was just 16. Harnessing the wireless power discovered by scientist Nikola Tesla, the New York-born designer has worked with brands such as Nike and Urbanears to create magnetic levitation installations.
Brought to life through a Kickstarter campaign, Flyte realises Morris’ dream of revolutionising lighting with the magic of levitation.
