The unmistakable silhouette of Gretta Grossman’s Gräshoppa Pendant Light for Gubi is informed by her 1947 Floor Lamp design.
A staple of mid-20th-century design, the unique form of the Gräshoppa resembles its namesake insect; in this iteration, Gubi presents an intricately crafted powder-coated steel shade, descending from a brass-plated steel canopy and a solid brass swivel.
Created over seven decades ago by the Swedish-born and California-based designer, the light is heavily influenced by European modernism. Inspired by designers such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, Grossman herself was a pioneer in shaping the aesthetic of mid-century North American modernism.
