This authentic Shibori throw is crafted from a cashmere blend in Japan using ancient techniques and is dyed in a rich indigo hue, with a subtle check running through the design.
The Shibori method is a very labour intensive process involving tying, sewing or folding fabric before dying. It is an extremely intricate process that, through careful manipulation, affects and yields where the coloured dye falls, creating three-dimensional patterns.
Based in the town of Arimatsu, Japanese textile artist Hiroyuki Murase and his family have been creating textiles using the traditional Shibori method for over 100 years. Now in its fifth generation, Suzusan regards Shibori as part of Japan’s cultural heritage and seeks to continue the tradition while developing contemporary forms and designs.
Before a piece is completed, it usually will have gone between four or five different artisans, who each complete an aspect of the production process.
The merino cashmere composition of the throw provides beautiful softness, while the indigo and white design make it a colourful and comfortable addition to your space. Mix and match with other complementary throws and cushions in indigo, cobalt and yellow hues across the collection for a balanced scheme.
