From the Earth: The Making of Our SS23 Ceramics

A craft as old as time itself, ceramics are deeply tactile and personal objects that hold a wonderful presence and warmth in our homes. As our in-house edit grows, we are excited for the opportunity to collaborate with emerging ceramic makers and artisans across the world, creating new designs and experimenting with new processes to create unique, timeless objects that bring colour and joy into everyday living; learn more about our process below.

Over the last decade, our Design Team has dedicated itself to becoming experts in modern handcrafted ceramics. We view the building of each collection as an investment in both our own design development, and the makers that we partner with. We believe that each season, our collections improve upon the last, offering exciting new designs, techniques and colourways.

Our SS23 collection is informed by our two key seasonal themes, Le Sol and Jungle Metropolis. Le Sol is a celebration of new places, travel, and unapologetic design passion, bathed in nourishing colours and fluid forms as we look to the sunnier days ahead. In complement, Jungle Metropolis champions conscious artisanship for an intimate relationship with materials to reinforce the value of well-made products. Informed by nature without causing it harm, the theme's organic colours transcend the seasons, providing calm and ease at home. As a London-based brand, our trends are often inspired by local galleries and exhibitions.

Our partners have been chosen carefully, for their innovative processes and sustainable practices. Our sgraffito collection is sculpted with care in Puglia; each piece is crafted from stoneware and decorated by hand according to the sgraffito technique, an intricate decorating method that involves scratching off layers from the finished product to create beautiful patterns. We have worked with our Italian artisans to create a collection of splatter serveware, including the ocean-themed Fish Platter.

We also collaborate with a studio in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Inspired by organic shapes, our vase collection is moulded using three different types of locally sourced clays, and the decorative finish is created using the intricate wax-resist ceramic technique. New additions to this range include the Cross Hatch Serving Bowl.

It is important to us that the ceramics we use and enjoy every day are just as beautiful as those we choose to display, which is why we have spent years honing our in-house tableware collection. The Pintura collection is now a Conran Shop hallmark, fashioned from stoneware and glazed by hand in Portugal, showcasing the country’s ceramic history, rich knowledge and skills of its artisans. Our more playful vegetable-themed platters are hand-painted with colourful motifs, intended to be mixed and matched with our evergreen dinnerware.

There is much to explore in our ceramics collection, with new pieces being added every week as new deliveries arrive from our makers. Shop our mix-and-match collection and get inspired by our vases, dinnerware and decorative accessories.
