Every year, London Design Festival comes to The Conran Shop with the aim of inspiring the capital to discover design, and this year is no exception. If you’re looking for a full run down of what we’ve got planned over LDF18, you’ve come to the right place.
We’re partnering with Pinterest, Carl Hansen & Søn, Vitra, Knoll and many others to present exclusive collaborations and never-before-seen limited edition pieces. From real life Pinterest boards to splashes of Conran Blue brightening up iconic designs, join us as we celebrate, launch, explore and collaborate to showcase some of the best inspiration the design industry has to offer.
JUMP INTO THE WORLD OF PINTEREST
For 2018, we are delighted to announce a first-of-its-kind collaboration with the world-renowned inspiration search engine, Pinterest. Blurring the worlds of online and offline, our flagship store will be filled with a larger-than-life Pinstallation, which will lead visitors through a maze of exclusive designs and iconic pieces from Knoll, Vitra, Artek and more. The tool of discovery lies in your pocket. Visitors can use their phones to scan unique Pincodes next to our limited edition launches to discover an inspirational Pinterest board that tells the unique stories behind the collaboration.
Visitors can also use their phones to tap and instantly save their favourite finds around the store to a personalised Pinterest wishlist board. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in real-life inspiration and use your phone to unlock a game-changing new way to discover design.
INDIGO ALL OUT WITH CARL HANSEN & SØN
Blue hues take centre stage as we collaborate with the renowned Danish manufacturer to present design icons in indigo. Hans J. Wegner’s CH24 Wishbone Chair receives a deep blue lacquered finish, while Kaare Klint’s classic 1930s Propeller Stool and Safari Chair are updated in denim by Hiut Denim Co. You can dive into a pool of blues at The Conran Shop Marylebone as these Danish furniture classics get the indigo treatment.
Hans J. Wegner’s CH07 Shell Chair has also been revisited as part of our collaboration, resulting in a unique never-before-seen wenge wood frame, a wood renowned for its mesmerising grain, paired with a choice of three premium leathers and resulting in an innovative grouping of materials with the instantly recognisable silhouette.
CREATIONS & COLLABORATIONS
To celebrate giving our design favourites new life, we’ve partnered with some of the most renowned names in the industry: Vitra, Knoll, Artek, Carl Hansen & Søn, to name a few, to launch exclusive limited editions of enduring icons. London Design Festival’s ethos is to connect people through the celebration of design; with these creations and collaborations The Conran Shop invites you to explore revisited classics and future collectibles.
Showcasing the unique charms of fibreglass, with irregular surface textures and lively visible fibres, Vitra is relaunching Charles & Ray Eames’ iconic Fiberglass Chair, presented in six of its original colours. DSR, DSW and DSX chairs will be exclusively available at The Conran Shop during Autumn/Winter 2018.
We are also delighted to debut a limited edition series of Eero Saarinen’s famous Pedestal Table, crafted using incredibly rare Calacatta Cielo marble sourced in Carrara, Italy. This extremely limited series will mark the first and only time that the Pedestal Table will be made using this showstopping material.
Meanwhile, Alvar Aalto’s Stool 60 has been updated with a grey stain finish that enhances the design silhouette while showcasing the visible wood grain; Matthew Hilton has designed a series of tables and sofas especially for The Conran Shop with details such as cork lined compartments and seamless upholstery and Samuel Wilkinson has developed two never-before-seen lighting collections inspired by traditional silhouettes, brought into the 21st century by starkly contemporary developments to their forms.
Unfortunately London Design Festival 2018 is now over. However, you can find out more about The Conran Shop’s events and LDF19 activities here.
