For Father's Day 2022, we invited Charlie Porter of Tat London to be our Tastemaker and help our readers select the perfect gift for dear dad.
Porter's raison d'être is Tat London, an online 'jumble' shop and blog started in 2016, offering vintage finds, interiors tips, shopping advice, and much more, making Porter the perfect go-to for this year's Father's Day gifting. "My rule for buying presents is to buy something I would appreciate; this might be a somewhat narcissistic way of looking at gift-giving, but I think it has worked," Porter begins.
First, she recommends the Garden Shears from Niwaki, ideal for keeping the wildness at her father's Gloucestershire gardens "in check." She continues, "As we are all aware, our little gardens have become vast hotels for insects and bugs; I know my father is always keen to make these bugs more at home, and I think this Dew Drop Bee Home is just the ticket."
Continuing her affinity for Niwaki, she suggests the "glorious" Golden Spade, which would make a "great addition to all the hard work" her father puts into his blossoming forest. "While he's doing all this garden work, I think it would be only kind to add a pair of the amber-hued Nelson Sunglasses," she adds. For idyllic summertime barbeques with your nearest and dearest, Porter highlights the CUBE Portable Barbeque, sure to "take the BBQ game up a level."
Heading inside, "but not too far from the garden," Porter believes that Volta's green Dallas Multi Mobile would be a “terrific addition" to her father's shed, an already colourific place, though Porter insists that "you can never have too much colour." "I also believe you can never have too many mobiles, so for me, this charming Solar System Mobile is a delight," she exclaims, with her baby nephew in mind, the beloved first grandchild; "We have all become baby obsessed, so the Polaroid Go is a perfect tool to capture every move he makes."
Completing her thoughtful suggestions is a selection of candles from Moro Dabron. Porter's father has "a very keen sense of smell, and these fill your nose with tremendous fragrant bouquets. As an added extra, I believe he would adore the vessel and use it for his flowers from the garden," she concludes.
