The result of numerous experiments on how snow moves around you when you sit in it, not to mention our founder Sir Terence Conran’s favourite chair, the Karuselli Lounge Chair and Ottoman is a contemporary design classic by Yrjö Kukkapuro.
Originally designed in 1964, the story behind the chair’s conceptualisation is an interesting one; Kukkapuro designed the chair after playing outside with his daughter making snow chairs, when he realised the snow perfectly surrounded the contours of the human body.
“It’s the most comfortable chair in the world… I lie back in it with a glass of whisky and a cigar and immediately feel that life is worth living.” - Sir Terence Conran.
Available in a selection of red, brown or black Prestige Leather upholsteries with white fiberglass shells, the Karuselli Chair is an ergonomic form that envelops you as you sit, while the accompanying ottoman makes the ideal companion, with complementary ergonomics and generous padding.
With both swivel and rock capabilities, the Karuselli Chair moves with you. Finnish furniture designer Yrjö Kukkapuro is a central figure of Finnish functionalism who prioritised sense and function first and foremost in his creations. This characteristic is exemplified by the Karuselli Lounge Chair and Ottoman Set, which is equally ergonomic and artful and would make a timeless addition to your home.
