This Mexican throw was crocheted by skilled artisans using wool that has been woven and dyed by hand. This is an extremely special piece as the intricate embroidery is achieved using a traditional technique called Bordado Antiguo.
Each throw is handcrafted by a collective of Nahua craftswomen in the state of Puebla who form part of one of the main native groups indigenous to Mesoamerica. The artisan women dye local wool using natural pigments made from plants and insects before weaving the threads on ancient waist or pedal looms to create the wool.
After the wool is woven the fabric is intricately decorated using the Bordado Antiguo technique with geometric designs that can feature stars flowers and birds.
With pom pom tassels finishing the design beautifully this handmade Mexican Crocheted Throw would make the perfect finishing touch for sofas chairs and beds.
