Minimalist and versatile, this large Akosu Rectangular Storage Basket in a natural and black finish was designed by The Basket Room and handcrafted in Northern Ghana.
With a natural motif inspired by local designs, this basket provides a vibrant and stylish space-saving design. Robust enough to store kindling and magazines, the basket would also serve as practical storage for toys and books.
Hand-woven by skilled craftswomen in Ghana, this basket has been crafted using a wild-growing Ghanaian grass called veta vera. Also known as a bolga basket, each piece takes up to three days to create in a complicated process that involves the grass being collected and split by hand, then rolled and dyed before skilled weavers can begin their work.
Spurred on by their love of basket weaving, Holly Dutton and Camilla Sutton founded The Basket Room. By supporting local communities in Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya and Swaziland, the workers benefit from fair wages, dignified working conditions and flexible working hours.
Please note: Due to the handcrafted nature of these baskets, no two are the same.
