Produced from the leaves of the palm tree, which grows abundantly in the south of Mexico, this placemat is not only sustainable but helps to support local communities. Approximately 300 local artisans of all ages are involved in the creation of this handcrafted placemat.
‘Makaua’ comes from the ancient Nahuatl language and means ‘the act of giving a hand.’ The eponymous brand has collaborated with a community of artisans in southern Mexico to create Fairtrade, sustainable pieces exclusively for The Conran Shop.
Structurally strong and generously proportioned, this grey woven placemat is perfect for table settings and hot plates.
