Thin Black Lines Table

This minimalist trompe-l'oeil originally formed part of the 'Thin Black Lines' collection, organised by Phillips de Pury for a show at the Saatchi Gallery during London Design Festival 2010.

This edition, launched at the Milan Furniture Fair last year, is an identical shape to that which was on display at the Saatchi exhibition, but shrunk to a more practical size, producing a simple yet stylish side table and imitating an artist or designer's sketches, seemingly suspended on a blank canvas.

The wonderfully geometric form is created by the intersection of two offset contours of a cube, and resembles a mathematical puzzle, inspired in part, by the optical illusions of the Escher maze designs.

Produced by Cappellini, the Thin Black Side Table has a steel frame, coated with a matt black powder epoxy and was designed by Japanese design studio, Nendo.
