Crafted from mouth-blown glass and fired in a traditional mud brick kiln in Herat Afghanistan this blue tumbler from Ishkar has its own satisfyingly individual form with beautiful complexities in the glass that can only occur from handcraftsmanship.
Herat’s distinctive coloured glass has been traded along the length of the Silk Road for two centuries. This tumbler was made by Ghulam Sekhi an artisan based in the ancient citadel of Herat keeping the precious glass industry alive as one of the last in an ancient line of glassblowers.
The glass is made by grinding quartz plant ash and natural oxides down together to create the vibrant colours that Herat glass is renowned for. Presented in a beautiful box that would make a thoughtful gift this blue tumbler from Ishkar would lend an authentic Afghan glassware aesthetic to your dining scheme.
