Designed in 1958 by Takeshi Nii, the multi award-winning NY Lounge Chair was inspired by the iconic director’s chair and showcases a tactile blue fabric seat and wooden armrests, while folding easily away to just 5 inches’ width.
Taking its name from ‘Nii’, the designer’s surname, and ‘Ny’ the Danish word for new or fresh, the blue NY Chair presents a contemporary take on the folding director’s chair, both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The winner of numerous design awards, the NY Chair became a permanent feature at the New York MoMA in 1970.
After seeing a beautiful chair with a fabric seat in Denmark and noticing a folding director’s chair in a pre-WWI magazine, Nii was inspired to create the NY Lounge Chair, combining a supportive fabric seat with a folding mechanism and wooden armrests.
Coordinating ottoman also available.
