Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949, the classic Wishbone chair was introduced the following year and has been in continual production ever since.
Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines the antique Chinese chair.
With its gently rounded top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape, the lightweight Wishbone chair allows for freedom of movement and superior comfort, making it an ideal piece for both work and relaxation spaces.
The characteristic ‘Y’ detail provides back support and stability to the top, and also inspires the chair’s namesake.
More than 100 production steps are carried out by hand to create this masterpiece and the seat is expertly hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord, which can last up to 50 years.
The Wishbone chair is an excellent example of iconic Danish designer Hans J. Wegner’s constant striving towards organic simplicity in his work, and his desire to create sculptural beauty, comfort and outstanding stability.
